This summer Macy’s has saluted those who serve with their Big Give Back campaign, and we are here for it. From exciting in-store donations to giving veterans a boost of fashion-forward confidence, Macy’s has made a big impact on the veteran and military community by raising over $2 million for Bunker Labs, Blue Star Families, and Team Rubicon.
The Big Give Back
Our partnership with Macy’s has fostered many new connections throughout the summer and has been a catalyst for positive change in the lives of military veterans across the United States. It all started with the Big Give Back Campaign – an in-store and online promotion active from June 28th through July 8th. Customers and colleagues alike came together and gave a $3 donation and received 25% off their entire purchase.
To help Macy’s staff get revved up for the Big Give-Back Campaign, we dispatched Bunker Labs city leaders all over the nation to visit Macy’s locations to spread the word about Bunker Labs’ mission to support veterans as entrepreneurs. This was a fun way for Macy’s staff to see our mission in action by hearing from those who have been involved.
Bunker Labs’ participation was extended through July with four in-store events in Columbus, Chicago, San Francisco, and Minneapolis. Bunker Labs community members participated in Macy’s My Stylist program to discuss certain roadblocks military veterans face when re-discovering their personal brand and fashion sense after years in uniform.
In-store events included opening remarks from both Macy’s and Bunker Labs, makeup touch-ups, and professional headshots. In total 11 veterans across the United States were styled by Macy’s My Stylist team, including Army veteran, Tyna Korcz, at the Chicago event. She explained, “My experience at Macy’s was great. Patti was the best, she was fun, so sweet and listened to what I had to say. She took my style and my thoughts into consideration for picking outfits. She chose outfits that were outside of what I would normally choose, but choices that were definitely ‘me’ – flattering and comfortable. I was amazed at how wonderful the experience was overall, and I would definitely recommend it.”
With an average of over sixty people attending these in-store events, the Bunker Labs community came out to support each other and to discover the amazing free service Macy’s provides. In addition to the in-store events, Bunker Labs also held a social media contest where participants could vote on which veteran’s new look was best, and over 50 people were awarded Macy’s gift cards so they too could develop their personal brand.
Becca Keaty, Bunker Labs Chief Development Officer, explains how the Big Give Back campaign’s contributions to Bunker Labs will be used. This donation will be used to “…grow our capacity to reach all 50 states and serve the veteran community nationally. Our mission to inspire, equip, and connect military veterans, active duty, military spouses and family members with the resources and networks they need to become successful business owners will be realized more quickly due to Macy’s tremendous support.”
The over $2 million raised will be used to encourage the expansion of Bunker Labs’ resources and networking events to even more cities in the United States, help build resilience and connections to support serving military and their families through Blue Star Families, and mobilize volunteers to provide assistance to vulnerable populations whenever and wherever disaster strikes through Team Rubicon.
This is not solely about furthering the growth of these organizations – it’s about providing military veterans and their families with every opportunity possible.
